Can you imagine what I am going to discuss in this post?? You will think how ads destroy your blog? And you may think I am making some joke for you. No absolutely this is not a joke. Your blog can be destroyed by advertising. Recently most people are joining with blogging. They just have one dream. That is to make huge money within few days, weeks or months. But they don’t know anything about blogging or they even don’t know how to select a topic to make a blog. They don’t know what SEO is, how to do SEO or what the big SEO mistakes are.
These People just make blogs after reading few articles from internet which are written on blogging and online money making. These new guys also don’t know the better places to read the articles even. I have seen very new bloggers who are writing on online money and affiliate marketing. They probable never made money from any advertising program. They just copy something from web and paste it on their blog. So how new bloggers can learn from that kind of blogging experts?? It is just like a joke. It is like learning swimming from a guy who was never swam. So first of all you need to know the places where you can learn basics of blogging.
Because of this wrong impressions and low quality guidelines, most new webmasters will not earn any cent from those advertising programs. They end up leaving blogging within few months or ending up by destroying their own blog by their own hands. You may think what I meant by saying “destroying their blog by their own hands”. That is what we are going to discuss on this post.
As usual you may also make a new blog on some popular platform like wordpress, blogger and etc. If it is very new I am pretty sure you may have only few visitors. It may be around 20-30 visitors per day which may count for 50-60 page views per day. You may think, with this traffic you can earn a lot of money from some adverting program. Sometimes you may not. But what most new bloggers think is this is the best time to monetize their blog with ads.
Because of this 100% wrong idea, they try to monetize their blog with some ads. Nevertheless to say Google Adsense is the most popular advertising networks they are looking in to. What will happen? Do they get Adsense?? Never. They will never get Google adsense. Why? Because of those new blogs consist of very limited content. As always I am saying “Content Is the KING”.
But you may think that “Why only adsense?? We will go for another advertising program or some other affiliate program”. Then the problem will solve, isn’t it? No, still you will get hundreds of troubles. Just think you are getting in to another advertising networks which is similar (actually there are no other advertising programs similar to adsense) to Google Adsense. But the earning from those advertising programs is far lower than Google adsense. The people who has used Google adsense and any other advertising programs know this clearly.
Then the affiliate program comes in to play. You will add hundreds of banner ads with the intention promote products of an advertiser. You may think adding more and more banner will do the trick for you. Never. It will never improve your affiliate earnings. You need to build trust with the readers first and then you have to promote your products. Until then they will never buy your products. On the other hand as a new blogger you may not have enough visitors to convert in to customers.
Let me get in to proper topic back again, how ads destroy your blog. As I discussed above you may add hundreds of banners and ad-units on your blog. They may be at header, side bar footer, inside the post body and everywhere. I have seen some blogs with hundreds of popup ads. If I make a click on some blogs, it will make more than 3-4 popup ads. What I do is just close that website or blog by pressing close button on my browser. I think you will also do the same if you can’t find the content that you are looking for, aren’t you? Some people add ads or Facebook like boxes in a light box gadget. That gadget appears on loading. Just think how can I put LIKE for a website or a blog even without knowing the content of that blog? How foolish is it?
Now you can understand what will happen when there are too many ads and popup on your site. No one wants to click on those annoying ads. And they will leave the site by thinking that your site is just an ads blog. This site doesn’t have any important content. Then you will never get returning visitors to your blog. This will increase your bounce rate too. The bounce rate has a relationship with SERP positioning. If your bounce rate is very high, your blog will go down on search engines. Ultimately what will happen?? You won’t get some descent amount of traffic. What is the point of having a blog without visitors?? That’s why I am saying unnecessary ads and its placement can harm your blog and destroy it completely.
Let me hear from you. I like to hear your thoughts too. You may have some different thoughts on monetizing of a blog.
Well, this is all about the ads and its harmful effects. Now send us your comments to start a useful discussion on whether ads can or can’t destroy a blog.

I do believe that Ads can destroy blog in various ways. but that happens only to beginner bloggers mostly. Because as you said they put Money first blog second. But I think one-time popup is a useful thing. content is the most wanted thing in the future and now also..Good article…

As always thanks for commenting. One time popup may be useful for the blogs with good traffic. They are useless for a new blog which has only 20-30 visits per day, isn’t it? I like to hear back from you on this post.
Ya definitely I agree to that sentence. Thanks for the reply..!

Can I ask a question from you? Do you like to visit a blog which consists of tons of ads which are misleading you to unnecessary pages and useless content?
Maybe its a little too harsh to say that ads destroy a blog, but overdoing it may harm a blog, especially if the intention is not to promote content or value.

Yes, absolutely correct. Actually over usage or premature usage of ads will harm. Otherwise we also using ads. You can see some adsense units on my blog too. But they never done a harm to me. So careful usage will grow your income, excessive usage will ruin your blog.
Ofcource no one waste there time for useless content but the blogging world is change people make money with ads so how can we ignore it.

I agree with you! I’m even annoyed with some blogs that have ads that appear before you can read the content of the blog. And sometimes, you can’t even find the close button for it so I just close the window instead and I won’t mind reading the content anymore.

100% correct. I also do the same for those kind of blogs. BTW thanks for stopping and commenting.
Displaying ads are fine.
But the question is are you thinking about what your visitors want.
Or simply..
How much money can I make from displaying more.
I would avoid overloading your blog with ads.
It look unprofessional and makes people think you are jsut trying to make a quick buck.

Exactly true. Thanks for commenting.
I agree advertisements can harm the site. I read somewhere that the best adsense advice was not to use adsense at all. The best thing is to do is build the site, produce quality content and then consider adding advertisements.

Most of the bloggers thinks other way around, they think more ads equals more clicks and more money. But I described the reality.
Thanks for commenting and approving my opinion.
I hate pop up ads, I usually close them faster than they appear. Definitely too many ads puts people off too. People should first concentrate on the visitors experience and wait until they have a decent amount visitors before even considering any type of ad.
Just look at Facebook, they waited a long time before putting ads and look at them now. Anybody heard of Mashable? They are worth millions. It wasn’t until after there first year did they start advertising.
Don’t just think about the money, there is more to blogging than this.

Chris, I can still remember that Facebook didn’t advertise on it until it became strong website. They knew advertising is going to kill their website. I think still they are not using pop up ads, isn’t it?
I know Mashable too, a great website.
Anyway thanks for adding a comment with two great examples.
Ads can destroy blogs .But I think most of time it is happens with new blogs.

Yes, you are correct. Most newbies think ads will earn a lot. But excessive use of ads will destroy their blog reputation.
For a new blogger I just concentrate on article for 1 month. Then look for advertise to run a website. When I see a pop-up FB like, I feel annoying. Advertise should be linked with content. Too much ads makes the site impression poor. Readers read content first then if they want additional information, click ads. So it is also important thing ads should be relevant to content
